Full program description

This is a web‑based course in Laboratory Animal Science focusing on electrofishing as a survey method. The course covers boat electrofishing, which is used in larger and deeper waters where wading is not possible. A boat equipped with an electrofishing unit creates an electric current that temporarily stuns fish near the surface, allowing them to be netted, identified, and measured before release. The method provides an effective basis for studying fish populations in lakes and larger watercourses.

The course includes basic fish biology and Swedish legislation relevant to survey fishing. You will gain essential knowledge of electrical theory, equipment, safety, species identification, and gentle handling and release of fish. The course also covers fish reactions to electric current, injury risks, anaesthesia methods, and the 3R principles. After each module, a short online knowledge test is completed.
